Design and Validation of a Scale to Measure Attitudes towards Abortion Legislation; Application of Explanatory and Confirmatory Factor Analysis

General societal attitudes on induced abortion can influence the health sector policy response towards providing safe services. This study aimed to develop a scale and evaluate validity reliability measure public legislation. An was developed by adapting existing scales finalized with experts’ opinions. interview schedule administered among 728 adults residents in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Validity were tested after performing Explanatory Factor Analysis (EFA) Confirmatory (CFA).
 The contained 8 items 2 factors named “Attitudes soft reasons” hard reasons”. two explained 71% of total variability. CFA showed good model fit. Composite Reliability for first second 0.938 0.890 respectively. scale’s internal consistency correlation coefficient at acceptable level (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.923 0.850, McDonald’s omega 0.915 0.863 respectively). Average Variance Extracted 0.792 0.671 whereas Maximum Shared Squared 0.054. between 0.23.
